About Wilder Earth
Wilder Earth, a subsidiary of the Social Carbon Foundation, is dedicated to supporting sustainable development through rigorous certification of nature-based solutions (NbS) projects. Wilder Earth provides infrastructure services to streamline project development and scale nature-based solutions. In addition to the provision of infrastructure, Wilder Earth conduct deep reviews of project certification to ensure alignment with the SOCIALCARBON Standard.
Position Overview
The Certification Officer will be an integral part of Wilder Earth’s team, responsible for conducting thorough reviews of project submissions to ensure compliance with the SOCIALCARBON Standard and associated methodologies. This role requires a high level of technical expertise, particularly in ecology, biology, carbon accounting, and the evaluation of nature-based solutions. The Certification Officer will work closely with project developers, auditors, and other stakeholders to ensure that projects meet the highest standards of social and environmental integrity.
Key Responsibilities
Project Review & Evaluation: Conduct detailed assessments of project submissions against the SOCIALCARBON Standard and approved methodologies, ensuring compliance with established criteria.
Technical Analysis: Analyze project documentation, monitoring reports, and impact assessments to verify data accuracy, carbon sequestration estimates, and adherence to ecological best practices.
Certification Decisions: Provide recommendations on certification status based on thorough evaluations, identifying any gaps or non-compliance issues that need resolution.
Stakeholder Communication: Liaise with project developers, validators, and auditors to clarify certification requirements, provide feedback, and guide projects towards successful certification.
Continuous Improvement: Contribute to the ongoing refinement of the SOCIALCARBON Standard and methodologies, incorporating industry advancements and feedback from project assessments.
Documentation & Reporting: Prepare detailed review reports, certification summaries, and feedback documents to ensure transparency and accountability in the certification process.
Knowledge Development: Stay current with developments in the carbon market, nature-based solutions, and emerging sustainability standards to inform certification processes and best practices.
Key Requirements
Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree (minimum) in Ecology, Biology, Environmental Science, or a related field; a Master’s degree or equivalent experience is preferred.
Experience:
3+ years of experience in project evaluation, certification, or technical review within the environmental, sustainability, or voluntary carbon market sectors.
Proven experience with nature-based solutions (NbS) projects, such as reforestation, ecosystem restoration, wetland conservation, or sustainable land management.
GIS experience preferable.
Technical Expertise:
Familiarity with carbon accounting methodologies, impact assessments, and sustainability certification processes.
Strong understanding of ecological principles, biodiversity metrics, and ecosystem services.
Preferably, experience with carbon project development and certification documentation.
Skills:
Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen eye for detail.
Excellent written and verbal communication abilities, capable of conveying complex technical concepts to diverse stakeholders.
Highly organized, self-motivated, and able to manage multiple project reviews in a remote working environment.
