We are looking for a passionate and detail-oriented Technical Officer to join our team and contribute to our mission of promoting sustainable development and nature-based solutions.

 

Position Overview

The Technical Officer will play a critical role in supporting the management and development of methodologies, frameworks, and standards under the SOCIALCARBON certification. This individual will be responsible for overseeing existing approved methodologies, contributing to the creation of new methodologies, and assisting in the design of innovative frameworks to scale natural ecosystem restoration and conservation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Methodology Management & Development: Support the management of SOCIALCARBON approved methodologies, ensuring compliance, updates, and improvements based on evolving industry standards and best practices.

  • Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with project developers, auditors, and other stakeholders to provide technical support, guidance, and clarification on SOCIALCARBON methodologies and frameworks.

  • Documentation & Reporting: Prepare technical reports, methodology documents, and guidelines to support the certification process and ensure transparency.

  • New Methodology Creation: Assist in the development of new methodologies focused on Nature-based Solutions (NbS), including carbon sequestration, biodiversity conservation, ecosystem restoration, and community-based initiatives.

  • Framework Development & Management: Contribute to the design, refinement, and management of nature-based frameworks that assess and monitor the social, environmental, and economic impacts of certified projects.

  • Technical Guidance & Support: Provide expertise in ecology, biology, or related fields to ensure the scientific robustness of methodologies and frameworks.

  • Research & Innovation: Stay updated on industry trends, research, and innovations in nature-based solutions, carbon markets, and sustainability standards to inform methodology updates and new developments.

 

Key Requirements

  • Educational Background: Bachelor's degree (minimum) in Ecology, Biology, Environmental Science, or a related field; a Master's degree or equivalent experience is preferred.

  • Experience:

    • 3+ years of experience in technical roles within the environmental, conservation, or voluntary carbon market sectors.

    • Demonstrated experience with nature-based solutions (NbS) projects, such as reforestation, afforestation, wetland restoration, or other ecosystem services.

  • Technical Expertise:

    • Familiarity with sustainability standards, particularly carbon standards, methodologies, and impact assessment frameworks.

    • Strong understanding of ecological principles, carbon accounting, and biodiversity metrics.

  • Skills:

    • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities with attention to detail.

    • Strong written and verbal communication skills to effectively convey technical concepts to diverse stakeholders.

    • Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks, and meet deadlines in a remote working environment.
