Monitoring GHGs through atmospheric-based methods is endorsed through three inter-governmental processes: the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and the World Meteorological Organization (WMO).

This module outlines the requirements for the use of Eddy Covariance to quantify the actual, real-time net GHG flux between the terrestrial surface and the atmosphere, in tonnes of carbon dioxide or equivalent (tCO2e), continuously for a specific project over space and time.
